BATON ROUGE (AP) — Baton Rouge police detectives are investigating the Saturday death of an 11-month-old child that has been ruled a homicide.
Lt. Don Kelly says an autopsy conducted Monday showed the infant died from blunt-force head trauma.
Kelly says Aaliyah Heard was unresponsive and rushed to Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City at 1:15 p.m. Friday before she was transferred later to the hospital's Bluebonnet Boulevard campus. He says the child died at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Kelly says family members were initially interviewed by detectives and investigators from the state Department of Children and Family Services.
He says the investigation is continuing and criminal charges are expected to be filed.
