Deadline nears for Cameron Veterans Wall applications

About 25 local veterans have submitted applications to add their names to the Cameron Parish Veterans Wall, according to Delia “Dede” Sanders, assistant to the director for the Cameron Library.

The application process, which takes place every two years, has been slow because many veterans already have their names on the wall, she said. The wall is in front of the parish courthouse on Smith Circle in Cameron.

Sanders said veterans can submit applications through Dec. 19 at any one of the parish’s six library branches: Cameron, Grand Chenier, Grand Lake, Hackberry, Johnson Bayou and Lowry.

The wall, dedicated in 1994, bears the names of nearly 3,000 veterans who either lived or worked in Cameron. The list includes all military branches, including the National Guard.

Sanders said Lake Charles-based Solari Marble & Granite Works will engrave the new names on the wall.

For more information on applying, call the Cameron Library at 775-5421.
