A DeRidder man has been charged with second-degree murder after confessing to strangling his girlfriend, authorities said.
Jeremy A. Bunch Sr., 40, was taken into custody Sunday night at the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s office in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 40-year-old Mandy Kirl of DeRidder.
Bunch allegedly killed Kirl early Wednesday morning and fled to Texas.
“While in Texas someone had convinced him it was in his best interest to turn himself in, so he went to the nearest sheriff’s office, which just happened to be in Shreveport,” said BPSO spokesman Joe Toler.
Bunch told Caddo Parish Sheriff’s officials on Saturday “that something bad had happened” at a home on U.S. 190, west of DeRidder, Toler said.
When BPSO officers and detectives arrived at the rental home, they discovered Kirl’s body.
Toler said it was an argument that escalated and “got out of control.” Police also responded to the residence in January for “a similar issue,” Toler said.
However, Toler said he was unsure if any charges were brought against Bunch in January or if he had been arrested for that incident.
While preliminary reports are indicating strangulation, Kirl’s body was transported to the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office for examination.
Bunch is originally from Los Angeles, Calif., and transferred to DeRidder for work.

Title: sad & tragic
I'm sorry that Mandy's friends & family will never be able to see her again...that's so sad. Her children will grow up wondering why it happened and wishing it hadn't. My condolences to them and everyone else who knew & loved her. It's my understanding that there were restraining orders for each against the other because of mutual physical violence in the past (much of which occurred during episodes of heavy drinking). They didn't get along well and had broken up so it's unfortunate that she went to his house as apparently they continued to drink & fight there. It ended in the worst way possible: he was stabbed and she was killed and my heart goes out to both of the families involved.

Title: This monster...
Mandy was loved by many people, because this monster didn't know how to keep his hands to himself her loved ones have been cheated. Her children are forced to move on without the mom they deserve to have. My good friend must move on without the love of his life. For this moment on time her family and friends must try to make sense of the nonsense and try to pick up the piece that were so abruptly shattered in their lives. Her life cut so short because of a man to was such a coward that he could not handle his emotions to the point that he made his option to end a life that wasn't his to end. It's hard to see how or why one decides that it's their choice whether someone's life is endible. Where does this mind set come from? Monsters that prey on those with an open heart that want to be just simply loved. As for myself I think that there ought to be extremely strict law set in place for domestic violence, a slap on the hand for the perpetrator is by no means enough and protective orders apparently do not work. They do not protect a victim for further violence and are simply useless pieces of paper. We as citizens have to realize how serious this epidemic is and take action to change the laws to give victims of these crimes a sense of peace.
