An off-duty DeQuincy police officer has been charged with DUI, hit-and-run driving and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said 30-year-old Matthew Sollay, of Lake Charles, was arrested early Wednesday morning following a single-vehicle accident at the corner of Bayou and Orchard drives.

"We began receiving calls about a marked DeQuincy Police unit operating recklessly, striking a fence at a home on West School Street and then a tree at the intersection of Bayou Drive and Orchard Drive," Kraus said in a news release. "Officers located the vehicle stuck in a wooded area south of Orchard Drive.

Title: ridiculous

No sense in this. I was at college and seen the dequincy cop next door with his cop lights on. He backed up and almost hit the tree. I am glad no one was behind him. Next thing I hear is that he was drunk and wrecked and was arrested. there is no sense in these type of people as authority figures.
