DEQUINCY — A DeQuincy man was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on La. 12, Louisiana State Police troopers said.
A 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 22-year-old Jacob Louis Dietz was traveling east at a high rate of speed when Dietz attempted to pass another vehicle. As he began to pass the other vehicle, his vehicle struck the rear of the other vehicle causing him to lose control. The Cobalt traveled off the roadway and struck a tree causing severe damage to the car. The other vehicle sustained minor damage.
Due to the severity of the crash, Dietz was pronounced dead at the scene despite the fact that he was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the other vehicle, who was also wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Impairment on the part of Dietz is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. The crash remains under investigation.
