Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier has spent $180,489 on his campaign since January, while challenger Christian Chesson has spent $93,795 on his campaign since June, according to two reports filed with the Louisiana Board of Ethics.

Chesson and DeRosier are the only two candidates for Calcasieu district attorney in Tuesday’s election. Candidates were required to file campaign finance reports on Oct. 6 and Oct. 27.

In Chesson’s Oct. 6 report, which covered from June 27 to Sept. 25, he spent $49,331. While he is not receiving contributions, he borrowed $52,965 from his law firm and received $19,472 in in-kind contributions, also from his law office. The in-kind contributions were for various campaign expenses, such as consulting fees, office space and billboards. Chesson also listed $67,937 in personal funds.

From Sept. 26 to Oct. 15, Chesson spent $44,464. Chesson also borrowed $46,100 for his campaign during that period. He also received an in-kind contribution of $1,500 from his own law firm for campaign office space.
