A 45-year-old Lake Charles man is facing five counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a Sept. 9 shooting on Orange Street, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Burnell Turner, 1108 Sage Drive, was arrested Tuesday.

Kraus said Turner pulled a gun following an argument and fired numerous shots.

“Turner missed his intended target and struck one of the four individuals that were standing behind the intended victim,” Kraus said in a news release on Wednesday. “The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.”

Turner’s bond was set at $1,000,000.

Kraus said if anyone has information on the incident is asked to contact Det. Lecia McCullough at 337-491-1311.

Tuesday night shooting may have been self-inflicted

A shooting Tuesday night on Susan Street may have been a self-inflicted accident, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said authorities responded to the shooting at 2019 Susan St. at around 8:30 p.m.

“(We) were dispatched in reference to a subject who was shot in shoulder,” Kraus said Wednesday in a news release. “The victim was treated for a non-life threatening injury. This incident may have been accidentally self-inflicted, but the investigation is ongoing.”

Kraus said patrol officers and detectives received conflicting stories at the scene of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 439-2222 or city police at 491-1311.

Authorities arrest theft suspect

A 42-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested for allegedly stealing from the Albertsons on Country Club Road, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Aveory Ramirez, 3411 Mark Road, has been charged with theft over $1,500.

Bond was set at $2,500.

Authorities released photos on Tuesday, asking for the public’s helping in identifying a man wanted in connection with a theft at the grocery store on Sept. 10.

On Wednesday, Kraus said Ramirez had be identified as the man in the photos.

City police to conduct checkpoints

City police said they will conduct DWI checkpoints somewhere in the city on Wednesday and Friday night.
