Crime Roundup: Lake Charles man facing numerous charges

A 27-year-old Lake Charles man is facing various charges following a violent run-in with authorities.

According to records from the Calcasieu Correctional Center, Jahmar Wayne Griffin was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 2700 block of Lake Street.

Griffin, 2187 E. Gauthier Road, has been charged with possession of 200-400 grams of cocaine, drug possession with intent to distribute, injuring or killing a police animal, two counts of battery of a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest with force or violence, obstruction of justice, drug possession in a drug-free zone and following to close.

Bond was not set and Griffin remained in jail on Thursday.



Sex offender arrested in Lake Area

A 37-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender or child predator.

According to records from the Calcasieu Correctional Center, James Braxton was arrested Monday on the corner of Kirkman and Church streets.

Bond was set at $10,000.

Braxton, 205 Moss St., No. 3, was convicted of forcible rape in 2001.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

• Craig Anthony Smith, 51, 5724 Nobie Lane — third-offense DWI. Bond: $15,000.

Hagen Michael Rogers, 19, 421 Beaugh Road — aggravated battery, domestic abuse battery, simple criminal damage to property. Bond: $8,000.

Melissa Kay Larocca, 47, 221 Summerwood Drive, Sulphur — drug possession, first-offense marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, in park after hours. Bond: $8,000.

Devointe Carlos Johnson, 19, 524 Hilma St., Westlake — two counts of aggravated battery, domestic abuse battery. Bond: $5,500.

Raphel Curtis Thomas, 39, Houston — aggravated battery, aggravate flight from an officer, seven counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, eight counts of hit and run driving, criminal trespass, simple burglary, simple criminal damage to property under $500. Bond: $5,000.

Leroy Riggs, 34, 1045 Deesports St., Apt. C — second-offense marijuana possession. Bond: $5,000.

David Joel Doyle, 28, 213 Burgin Road, Starks — drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond: $5,000.

David R. Gilley, 49, 1505 Topsy Road — first-offense marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, in park after hours. Bond: $3,000.

Kyle Smith, 25, 1713 W. Common St. — drug possession, first-offense marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, non-moving violations. Bond: $2,250.

Devin Kyle Peloquin, 18, 644 Moss Bluff Drive — three counts of issuing worthless checks under $500, issuing worthless checks under $300. Bond: $2,000.

Damien Lamarr Hilliard, 28, 1601 N. Adams St. — domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, drug possession.

Patrick Wayne Thomas, 42, 401 Maple St. — battery of a police officer, resisting an officer with force or violence.

Farrell Lashounda Kerlegan, 36, 4249 5th Ave., Lot S22 — two counts of drug possession, no proof of insurance, moving violation.

Mark Anthony Washington, 41, 2214 Knapp St. — drug possession with intent to distribute, non-moving violation.

Conley Brett Marcantel, 46, 369 Corley Road, DeQuincy — drug possession.



The Sulphur Police Department reported the following arrests:

Hector Bejar, 23, Houston — two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Matthew Franklin Law, 23, Montgomery, Texas — two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, moving violation.

Kyle Joseph Natali, 21, West Houston River Road, Sulphur — unauthorized entry, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple marijuana possession, resisting arrest.

Austin Patrick Anderson, 18, Christy Lane, Sulphur — unauthorized entry of a business, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple marijuana possession, resisting arrest.
