Crime Roundup: Sex offender arrested in Lake Charles

A 57-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender, according to records from the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

Herbert E. Carver Jr., 2429 E. Broad St., was arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon at his home.

Carver was convicted of forcible rape on March 13, 2012.

Bond was pending.

Arrests made in shooting incident

Two Lake Charles men have been charged in connection with a shooting on July 10, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Isiah Hardy, 26, and Desmond General, 27, have been arrested.

General, 304 North Bank St., was charged with attempted second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities. He was arrested Thursday and his bond was set at $725,000.

Hardy, 1605 Broadmore Drive, was charged with illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities and disturbing the peace. He was arrested last week and remains in jail on a $50,000 bond.

“On July 10, we were called to the area of Gerstner Memorial Drive and Aquarius Street in reference to gun shots,” Kraus said Friday in a news release. “No person was shot. However a house was struck by a bullet.

“The investigation revealed that General and Hardy shot at each other after a fight.”

Man charged with bank fraud

A 43-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with two counts of bank fraud, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Anthony Wayne Slydell, 222 Eugene Lane, was arrested Thursday following a month-long investigation.

“Detectives discovered Slydell was recently hired by the victim and paid with a check to perform construction and landscaping work,” Myers said Friday in a news release. “(Slydell then) utilized the victim’s bank information to pay a personal bill and to purchase construction materials totaling over $995.”

Bond was set at $2,500.

Sulphur man accused of firearm theft

A 26-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with theft of a firearm, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Robert Bradley Simmons, 313 1/2 W. Napoleon St., was arrested Thursday.

“When questioned by detectives, Simmons confirmed he stole firearms from the victim’s home and sold them to local pawn shop for cash,” Myers said in a news release. “The firearms were recovered and returned to the victim.”

Bond was pending.

Arrest Reports

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

• Kiyochi Ashanti Shaw, 30, 2616 Pineview St. — two counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, theft under $500, resisting an officer by flight, disturbing the peace, contempt of court. Bond: $5,000.

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

• Warren Dugger, 47, DeRidder — theft of assets from an aged person. Bond: $36,000.

• Kayla Stevens, 21, Leesville — theft. Bond: $25,000.

Sulphur police reported the following arrests:

• James David Larabel, 29, East Mimosa Street, Sulphur — drug possession with intent to distribute.

Those listed are presumed innocent until proved guilty.
