Cowgirls to compete in Long Island Turkey Classic

BROOKLYN — The McNeese women’s basketball team (3-2) and fresh off its first road win of the season in a 69-62 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday, will take part in the Long Island Turkey Classic Friday and Saturday. The Cowgirls will take on host LIU at 1 p.m. (CT) in the opening game of the tournament. All tournament games can be heard live on the McNeese Radio Network (CajunRadio 1470 AM/1290 AM). The Cowgirls will play with winner or loser of the Georgia Tech/Southern Utah game at either 1 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Saturday depending on Friday’s results.

Sophomore Allison Baggett leads the Cowgirls in scoring with 19.8 ppg. Senior Cecilia Okoye leads the team with 6.2 rpg. Sophomore Jayln Johson is averaging a team high 4.2 apg. Freshman Victoria Rachal who scored a career high 21 points in the win over Fairleigh Dickinson, leads the team with a 40.0 three-point field goal percent.

LIU (0-4) is looking for their first win of the season after falling to Columbia, Rider University, NJIT and Maine. The Blackbirds are led in scoring by Cleandra Roberts who is averaging a double-double with 19.3 ppg. and 11.0 rpg.

This will be the second all-time meeting against LIU as the two teams played each other in the 2009 LIU Turkey Classic. The Cowgirls dropped that game by a 71-56 score.””
