McNeese State’s softball team picked up a Southland Conference doubleheader victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday with 4-2 and 5-1 victories.
The series will conclude with a game at noon today.
McNeese collected 14 hits on the day, including two apiece from Emily Vincent, Alanna DiVittorio and Tori Rich. Both of Vincent’s hits were doubles and one of DiVittorio’s was a double.
McNeese capitalized on five Islanders errors in the first game.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, McNeese scored three runs on three hits to take the lead.Jamie Allred (9-2) gave up six hits, struck out six and walked two in the complete-game victory.
In the nightcap, McNeese jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI triple by Stacey Conley.
The Islander scored their lone run on a Laura Phillips home run in the sixth inning. McNeese scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Meagan Bond (9-2) went the distance, gave up three hits, struck out 11 and walked one.
