Stepping up in competition is what the Cowgirls love to do.
Saturday they do it again.
McNeese State opens the new season on the road at SEC member Vanderbilt in Nashville.
Last year the Cowgirls’ season came to an end against SEC champ Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA tournament, 68-62.
“We love the competition,” said Brooks Donald-Williams of her team’s willingness to hit the road against better-known teams.
Last year McNeese traveled to defending national champ Texas A&M, to-be-crowned champ Baylor and UCLA. They also played LSU at home, but lost all four.
“It is fun to see where you stand against the best,” said senior guard Ashlyn Baggett. “We get excited for these games.”
McNeese is hoping to make a third-straight trip to the NCAA women’s tournament. Each of the last two years they have been given a 15th seed by the committee and been knocked out in the first round.
The Cowgirls will be home next week against Texas Southern. Tip-off for today’s game at Vandy is 1 p.m.
