AUSTIN, Texas — For the second day, McNeese State's doubleheader against No. 8 Texas has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The schools said the doubleheader could possible be made up at a later date depending on if scheduling permits.
McNeese (27-9, 8-2 Southland) returns home to host Stephen F. Austin (11-22, 4-8) in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend. A doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. Saturday with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday at 1 p.m.
The doubleheader Saturday has been designated as the Cowgirls’ STRIKEOUT Cancer game.
Since starting the STRIKEOUT initiative over 10 years ago, National Fastpitch Coaches Association membership teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. In addition to fundraised dollars, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.
All proceeds from Saturday’s game will be donated to the Christus St. Patrick Hospital Regional Cancer Center to assist with funding their Bosom Buddies Cancer Support Group meetings and functions as well as assisting in the purchase of gas cards for patients who travel long distances for treatment.
There will be a silent auction beginning at 12:30 p.m. and ending 10 minutes prior to the start of the second game. Items being auctioned off are an autographed helmet, jersey and team photo. Fans will have the opportunity to win a T-shirt, and/or autographed softball between games.
