NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The hot bat of Chayse Marion was exactly what the McNeese State baseball team needed as his seven combined hits in two games led the Cowboys to 5-4 and 10-7 wins over Stephen F. Austin Sunday afternoon to clinch the weekend series after winning two of three games.
Marion went 8 for 12 in three games with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.
Second baseman Andrew Guillotte climbed to seventh place in the McNeese all-time stolen base leader category as he recorded two steals. He has 48 career stolen bases.

The Cowboys scored a 5-4 victory over the Lumberjacks in a continuation of Saturday night’s game that was postponed due to inclement weather.
Centerfielder Jackson Gooch sent an RBI-single down the right field line in the bottom of the 13th inning to score catcher Cameron Toole from third base.
Steven O’Bryant (1-2) picked up the win after tossing 7 innings and allowing no runs, three hits and eight strikeouts.
Along with Gooch, right fielder Matt Williams and first baseman Chayse Marion registered three hits in the game while designated hitter Lucas Quary finished with two RBIs.
McNeese 10, SFA 7
Shortstop Connor Lloyd led off McNeese (12-6, 2-1) in the rubber match as a fielder’s choice allowed him to reach base while sending in second baseman Andrew Guillotte to score and give the Cowboys first inning 1-0 lead.
Lloyd drove in a team-high three runs.
The Lumberjacks (8-9, 1-2) notched three runs on four hits in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead after an RBI-single.
McNeese regained the lead an inning later with Lloyd starting the scoring run on a sacrifice fly that scored Gooch to cut the lead to a 3-2 score. A throwing error by the Lumberjacks allowed Chayse Marion to score from second while Clay Payne’s double down the left field line score Lucas Quary to take a 4-3 lead.
SFA threatened to retake the lead in the seventh inning but could not score any runs as Williams snagged a diving catch in right field, leaving runners stranded at second and third.
McNeese used five runs on four hits to take a 9-3 lead over the Lumberjacks behind Marion, Lloyd, Quary, Reed Gordy and Matt Gallier RBIs.
The Cowboys added an insurance run in the ninth inning as Reed Gordy delivered his first career home run over the left center wall.
Kaleb Fontenot improved to 2-0 on the year after tossing 31⁄3 innings of relief work allowing no runs and giving up only three hits.
Sam Peterson got his sixth career save, relieving Kyle Neely. Peterson got the last three outs to help secure the series victory for McNeese.
Starting pitcher Michael Desabrais went 4 innings and allowed two runs on three hits along with three walks.
