Court upholds sentence of former Beauregard police juror

Last Modified: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 9:31 AM

LAKE CHARLES (AP) — The Third Circuit Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction and sentencing of former Beauregard Parish police juror Danny Paul Burge.

The Town Talk reported the 72-year-old Burge pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery and one count of molestation of a juvenile in Vernon Parish in connection with incidents that occurred in 2007 and 2008.

In June 2012, Burge appealed on the basis that his sentencing was excessive. The trial court sentenced Burge to 10 years in prison without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on each charge. The trial court ordered the sentences run concurrently with each other, but consecutively to sentences Burge might serve in other parishes.

Burge was facing charges from incidents with the same victim in Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes.
