A 4-year-old is in stable condition after being hit by a car early Thursday morning, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said the child was walking near Henry Heights Elementary when she ran into the road and was stuck by a dark, full-size sport utility vehicle.

Kraus said the driver of the vehicle did not stop, but authorities do not yet know if the driver even knew that he or she had struck the child.
