The final information session for the new local charter school will be at 6 p.m. today in the Buccaneer Room at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Prospective students and parents are invited to learn more about the way Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy will operate and about the application process. “At the information session we will focus on the process for admission into the Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy, and we will disseminate information about our management partner, Charter Schools USA,” said Gene Thibodeaux, president of the Lake Charles Charter Academy Foundation. “We will explain what a charter school is and how it functions and will be explaining the instructional techniques used. We will also focus on explaining the objectives of our charter school and what we expect from parental involvement.” Thibodeaux said time will be allotted for attendees to ask questions. Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy is the second charter school in Southwest Louisiana. Lake Charles Charter Academy opened last school year.
