The Calcasieu Parish School Board will hold a meeting for retirees and retiree spouses to discuss the possibility of moving from Blue Cross Blue Shield to Humana and the benefits of switching to a Medicare Advantage Plan.

The meeting will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the School Board office, 3310 Broad St.

The partnership with Humana would offer a comprehensive health and drug plan for employees and retirees with Medicare Parts A and B, officials said.

The board’s current plan has two parts, Medicare and a secondary insurance plan (Blue Cross). The Humana plan would combine the two into one packaged plan and simplify the insurance process for many people.

In Louisiana, six school districts employ the Humana Medicare Advantage Plan. The proposed changeover date for Calcasieu is Jan. 1.

A video recording of the meeting will be available online and at the School Board offices for those who are unable to attend the meeting.

If feedback is positive, officials said, further consideration will occur at an Employee Benefits Committee meeting on Sept. 17.””
