OBERLIN — Bond was set at $100,000 Monday for an Oberlin man arrested Thursday in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s toddler.
Bobby J. Davis Jr., 29, remains in the Allen Parish Jail on bond while the investigation into the toddler’s death continues,
Sheriff Doug Hebert III said. Davis has been charged with aggravated battery.
“We are still waiting on an autopsy report to determine the cause of death,” Hebert said.
Additional charges are pending, he said.
Davis was arrested last week after Tatiana Holyfield, 2, died while in his care.
The toddler suffered third-degree burns to her back from what officials say may have been prolonged contact with an electric heater found in the home.
“We are still interviewing witnesses and actively investigating the case,” Hebert said. “We have been working every day since that day to make sure we do the right thing and the right person or persons are in jail.”
The child’s mother was at work at the time of the incident, but returned home to take the toddler to the Allen Parish Hospital in Kinder. The toddler was dead on arrival, Hebert said.
Another child in the home was removed and placed into custody of the Office of Community Service until the investigation is complete, he said.
