A DeRidder man charged with second-degree murder in the weekend death of his girlfriend had a prior domestic violence arrest involving the same woman, authorities said.

Jeremy A. Bunch Sr., 40, was booked on a simple battery charge on Jan. 8. He bonded out and was to appear in court in May, said Joe Toler, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

“I am told that the girlfriend left but, as often happens, came back,” Toler said Tuesday. “It is something we see often.”

Authorities found the body of 40-year-old Mandy Kirl in her home on U.S. 190, west of DeRidder. Bunch allegedly killed Kirl early Wednesday morning and fled to Texas before turning himself in to Caddo Parish sheriff’s officials.

Bunch reportedly told authorities “that something bad had happened” at the residence. Toler said it was an argument that escalated and “got out of control.”

Preliminary reports indicate strangulation, and Kirl’s body was sent to the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office for examination, officials said.

Bunch is originally from Los Angeles and transferred to DeRidder for work.

Title: Jeremy is my cousin

With the 1 year anniversary approaching I can't help but think about Mandy's family and friends. The news of this tragedy hit us really hard the pertain who has taken it the hardest is his mother. We have all been raised in church and are God fearing. I wish we could have prevented such a horrible incident. Condolences to everyone hurting may Christ comfort you. Xo

Title: Mandy

I knew Mandy years ago when her kids were very young & I still lived in TX. She was a very sweet person. No one deserves to be treated like she was by him (from what I heard, he was psycho). In my opinion, strangulation takes a lot of effort to kill someone, therefore this should be considered premeditated, since he could have stopped at any time & she would still be alive. He should go away for life or even death penalty. Gabriel, I agree he should have been charged with attempted murder the last time this happened, just a few months ago.

Title: I am so sorry for your loss

We knew many from when she worked at Dennys in garland. My husband just saw her a week ago. It all doesn't make any ssince. I felt the same WY about the charges. I found out through another previous worker that was there eating the Monday after he was arrested. She has friends here that knew about the abuse she indured. They need to be interviewing them as well. Maybe if there is enough aired on the news by the reporters they will do there job..

The "simple battery" charge was strangulation, where Jeremy threatened to kill her; his charge should have been attempted murder with terroristic threat! Had the BPSO would do their job properly and charged him properly then she wouldn't have been able to go back to him because he wouldn't have been able to bond out! I am the father of her children and the BPSO has yet to return my calls or talk to me about the case! I have information which shows his intent was to murder her! Jeremy Bunch is a sociopathic liar; why not interview those of us who know and can provided evidence in Texas? This investigation is an injustice and an attempt to cover their own butts!
