SCOTT (AP) — Lafayette Parish sheriff's deputies say a 4-year-old child was found walking alone just outside of Scott early Sunday morning.
Capt. Kip Judice tells The Advocat a passing motorist spotted the girl. Judice says deputies arrived and began a door-to-door canvass of the area.
At 10:30 a.m., about five hours after the child was found, Judice says deputies found an open rear door to a home. He says two adults, identified as the girl's primary caregivers, were sleeping in the home.
Judice says the child is believed to have wandered outside through a locked rear door.
No charges have been filed, but the case has been turned over to the District Attorney's Office.
The child was taken into state custody by the Office of Child Services.
