NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Coast Guard and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality say they're investigating widespread reports of a variety of stinks in the New Orleans area.
Spokesmen for both agencies and the Bucket Brigade environmental group tell The Times-Picayune that reported smells include burning rubber, natural gas, and a petrochemical smell.
DEQ spokesman Tim Beckstrom says the agency is working to pinpoint the source.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class Bil Colclough says a gas smell was reported near Terrytown.
Bucket Brigade program manager Anna Hyrbyk says they've had calls from Harahan to Metairie about a burnt tire smell.
