More offshore waters open Saturday for shrimp

Last Modified: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 11:17 AM

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says two areas of offshore state waters will reopen to shrimping Saturday morning.

About half of the outside waters already were open.

At 6 a.m. Saturday, the only outside waters still closed will be those west of the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel to the western shore of Freshwater Bayou Canal. The department says that area still has significant numbers of juvenile white shrimp, and will remain closed until further notice.

Inshore waters will remain closed.

The state Wildlife and Fisheries Commission is to consider spring inshore shrimping dates on May 3.
