Last Modified: Monday, March 25, 2013 2:49 PM

COVINGTON (AP) — Two Covington Police officers have been arrested on charges of simple battery and malfeasance in office.

Monday's arrest of former Officer Anthony Adams and Officer Nicholas Harper came in connection with the alleged use of excessive force on someone being arrested at the police department. The alleged incident was uncovered in January however the department's Internal Affairs Unit said it occurred in November.

Adams, who was on the force for four years, resigned when the investigation began.

Harper has been with the department since June 2011. He is currently on unpaid leave.

Both men were booked at the St. Tammany Parish Jail. Bond was set at $7,500 for each.

It was not immediately known whether Adams had an attorney; Harper's lawyer, Christina Voelkel, was in court and unavailable for comment.
