Feds drop charges that ex-Monroe cop sold stolen goods

MONROE (AP) — Federal prosecutors have dropped all charges against a former Monroe police officer who had been accused of putting 14,000 stolen items for sale on eBay.
The News-Star reports that U.S. District Judge Robert James granted a prosecution motion Friday to dismiss without prejudice all charges against former Monroe Police Cpl. Raul Johnson. "Without prejudice" leaves the way open for prosecutors to bring charges later.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mignonne Griffing said she cannot release the details behind the dismissal.
In March, a magistrate threw out evidence found in Johnson's desk at Carroll Junior High School, where he was a school resource officer. Magistrate Judge Karen Hayes said the warrantless search violated Johnson's right to privacy.
Codefendant Stephanie Payne pleaded guilty in 2010.
