Lafayette crime up 2.4 percent over last year

Last Modified: Friday, February 08, 2013 11:49 AM

LAFAYETTE (AP) — Reported crimes were up in the city of Lafayette by 2.4 percent last year. That's according to Uniform Crime Report statistics released Thursday by the Lafayette Police Department.

Most troubling — and most unpredictable, Police Chief Jim Craft said — is the number of homicides in 2012. The 12 homicides investigated by police are double the number recorded in 2011, an eight-year low.

Craft said his department was on track to have a better 2012, but crime spiked in the last quarter.

Of the 12 homicides investigated during 2012, The Advertiser reported two remain unsolved.
