State police watching for dirty tags

Last Modified: Monday, July 30, 2012 8:01 PM

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana state police and local law enforcement agencies are telling motorists to clean off their dirty license plates.

State police say in a news release the motorists caught with their license plates obscured in any way, including by dirt, mud or frames that cover part of the plate, could be ticketed.

Louisiana law requires vehicle license plates be clearly displayed, as well as illuminated at night by license plate lights.

Col. Michael Edmonson, state police superintendent, says clean license plates can help citizens more easily report reckless or impaired drivers, as well as vehicles involved in criminal acts.

Title: So Jason....

When was the last time someone got away with something because their plate was dirty? If they was smart to begin with, they would remove it before committing a crime.Cops make up excuses all the time to pull people over.Pulling me over because 1 of my 2 bulbs for my plate was not on is not a legit reason.Cops give people tickets for not wearing their seatbelts but when one of them die because he wasn't wearing his, he is a hero.In my book he is a hypocrit.

Title: It's not always as bad as you think!

I guess you did not read the last paragraph. If your child was to get kidnapped and nobody could get the license plate down for the police, you would have a difference in opinion. You should try standing by your law enforcement. They are out there, believe it or not, to keep you safe. There are more reasons for what they do other than, "they need money".

Title: Somebody needs money

What this press release means is that the State Troopers need money so they are creating an excuse to write tickets. Seriously dirty license plates? When the State Troopers were originally founded there were only 50 of them nationwide. Now, like every other government agency, they are so big they have to write dirty license plate tickets to get by. Its become so sad.
