NEW ORLEANS (AP) — State wildlife officials say they're looking for volunteers to help clean up the beach at Elmer's Island, a public refuge near Grand Isle on the Gulf of Mexico.
The annual cleanup will take place May 12 between 8 a.m. and noon.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program are organizing the cleanup.
Trash washes up on the beach from recreational and commercial boaters and the offshore oil industry. Also, volunteers will pick up trash left on the beach by beachgoers.
Lunch and all necessary supplies will be provided.
