Tulane football coach Toledo resigns

Last Modified: Tuesday, October 18, 2011 11:10 AM

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says Tulane head coach Bob Toledo has resigned.

The person spoke to The Associated Press of Toledo's decision on condition of anonymity because the university was not planning to announce the move until later Tuesday.

Toledo, a former head coach at UCLA, took over at Tulane in 2007, the Green Wave's second season back in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Although he was 13-35 in his first four years, Toledo received a two-year extension after last season in the hope his recruiting efforts would pay off with a winning season in 2011. Tulane, however, is off to a 2-5 start that has included lopsided losses to Tulsa, Duke, Army and UTEP.

Tulane plays its homecoming game this Saturday against Memphis.
