A Salvation Army truck left Interstate 210 and crashed into a tree Monday afternoon, sending both of the truck’s occupants to the hospital, city police said.
The accident was originally called in as a fatality, Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said.
The crash happened on the north side interstate, near the La. 14 exit.
Kraus said that just after noon, the driver of the truck lost consciousness “for unknown reasons,” left the eastbound lane in which he was traveling, crossed the westbound lane and the exit ramp at La. 14 and hit a sign before crashing into a pine tree.
The driver and the passenger, both males, were taken to local hospitals, Kraus said. He said the driver is in critical condition and the condition of the passenger is unknown.
Authorities are not yet releasing the names of the occupants, he said.
