A 31-year-old Marrero man has been arrested and 20 pounds of marijuana was recovered after a Tuesday morning traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Westlake, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Viet Huna Nguyen was driving east when he was stopped by Combined Anti-Drug Task Force detective Sgt. Stuart Henderson.
“Henderson smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle,” Myers said in a news release. “Henderson and his K9 Tonja searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 20 pounds of high-grade marijuana. The drugs have a street value of $104,000.”
Myers said Nguyen charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. Judge Ron Ware set Nguyen’s bond at $35,000.
