OBERLIN — Most Allen Parish School Board employees will receive pay raises for the 2014-2015 school year.

The School Board voted unanimously Monday to approve salary increases for all support workers and professional staff under a new salary schedule proposed by the finance committee.

“This is well-deserving for our employees,” Superintendent Michael Doucet said. “We wish we could do more, but we are always looking to try to help them.”

The new salary schedule became effective July 1, according to committee Chairman Greg Monceaux. Under the plan, support staff will receive a 3.6 percent increase, Doucet said.

“This has not been done in a long time,” he said. “This will now be on a permanent schedule and help in retirement.”

The increase will amount to $525 for nine-month support workers, $583 for 10-month employees and $642 for 11-month employees. Support personnel employed for 12 months will receive a $700 increase.

The School Board also approved changes in the professional salary schedule for certified employees using a percentage of Minimum Foundation Program funds.

Under the measure, nine-month professional staff will receive a $531 increase, with 200-day employees receiving $584, 220-day employees earning a $642 increase and 12-month employees seeing a $700 increase.

“This increase will be in the salary now; it will no longer be a supplement,” Doucet said.

The pay raises will begin appearing on the July pay checks, with some employees not receiving the increase until September based on their employment contract.

The salary schedule increase does not include Allen Parish School Board members.
