A Lake Charles man was arrested after failing to register as a sex offender and violating his sex offender registration requirements.

On April 26, a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit detective was conducting a routine sex offender check on convicted sex offender, Harold K. Ramuar, 55, according to a news release from spokeswoman Kim Myers.

“During the check detectives were unable to locate Ramuar at the residence listed on his sex offender registration,” Myers said. “During the investigation, they learned Ramuar had been evicted from the residence for approximately two weeks and did not contact law enforcement or register a new address, making him in violation of his sex offender registration requirements.”

A warrant was issued for his arrest May 2.

On May 23, Ramuar was pulled over by a CPSO deputy for a traffic violation — at which time it was learned he was driving a truck that had not been registered with law enforcement, again making him in violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

Ramuar was charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional. His bond is set at $110,000.

Ramuar was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile by performing sexually immoral acts in 2004 in Calcasieu Parish.

CPSO Detective Cory Myers is the lead investigator on this case.

Jennings man faces arson charges

JENNINGS — A Jennings man is facing multiple charges, including arson, after allegedly setting three separate fires overnight.

Dawunte Morris was arrested Wednesday on three counts of arson, simple burglary and theft.

The incidents began after police responded to a burglar alarm at Sonic on La 26.

When officers arrived they found an unlocked door and running water.

Officers later found Morris walking on Airport Road. He told police he was coming from north of town.

Later in the morning, officers responded to reports of fire damage at a dumpster on Airport Road and a grass fire. A fire was also reported in the bathroom at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park.

After viewing security footage from Sonic, police identified Morris as the suspect making entry into the restaurant and triggering the alarm.

Morris admitted to breaking into Sonic and setting the three fires.

The Jennings Fire Department and Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.
