MARRERO (AP) — Jefferson Parish authorities say a 3-year-old boy was found dead in a Marrero home after the child's mother called 911.
The child's body was found shortly before noon Wednesday.
According to the Jefferson sheriff's office, a woman later identified as 34-year-old Lakeshia Brown, called 911 and said that she thought her son, 3-year-old Desmond, was dead.
Authorities found the child dead on a sofa in the home.
First responding officers smelled a strong scent of gasoline and found several canisters of gasoline on the right side of the home.
Brown was taken in by authorities for questioning.
