A Lake Charles woman arrested Monday in the death of an infant was indicted Thursday, as was her husband. Brittney Kowalski Woodcock, 26, and Tyson James Woodcock, 26, were both indicted on charges of negligent homicide.

Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said at a news conference Monday that Brittney Woodcock was under the influence of cocaine and amphetamines when she left a 6-month-old boy, Kaden James Reed, propped up in an adult bed in a home on Sundale Drive in April. Reed rolled between the mattress and the wall and suffocated.

Tyson Woodcock was also in the house and was under the influence of drugs, officials said.

Brittney Woodcock’s bond was previously set at $750,000. On Thursday, Judge Mike Canaday set a bond of $750,000 for Tyson Woodcock.

“We felt like (Tyson Woodock’s case) wasn’t as clear, so we did not make an arrest. We turned it over to the district attorney to review,” Mancuso said. “Obviously, he did and brought it to a grand jury and they saw fit to indict.”

Woodcock’s twin sister was also investigated, but she has not been indicted.

The mother and father of the child reportedly left him in the care of the sister, who then left him in the care of the Woodcocks while she went to have her hair and nails done. Reed was reportedly crying, so Brittney Woodcock put him in the bed with a bottle, then went to watch television with other children in the home.

“It’s a shame this even happens,” Mancuso said. “It’s unfortunate. The bottom line is a child is dead because of their negligence. My heart goes out to the parents.”
