A 12-year-old Lake Charles boy was in critical condition late Saturday night and a 16-year-old has been placed in juvenile detention as the result of a shooting late Friday, Lake Charles police said.
The victim, who was shot once in the chest, was driven to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital’s emergency room by the shooting suspect, according to Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus.
A Memorial Hospital spokesman said the victim was transferred to the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
The police responded to a call at about 11:20 p.m. regarding the shooting in the suspect’s home in the 1600 block of 14th Street, Kraus said.
Kraus did not comment on the circumstances of the shooting. The suspect is being charged with aggravated battery and illegal use of dangerous instrumentation.
Kraus said the investigation into the incident will continue on Monday.
