Authorities searching for purse-snatching suspects

Last Modified: Thursday, January 30, 2014 6:10 PM

From staff reports

Calcasieu Sheriff’s detectives are searching for the occupants of an older-model silver Ford Taurus, believed to be involved in two purse-snatching incidents Wednesday evening.

The two incidents happened in a shopping center parking lot in the 300 block of Sam Houston Jones Parkway and in the Walmart on Highway 171 between the hours of 2:45 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Myers said in a news release.

The Lake Charles Police Department is also investigating a similar incident at Kroger on 12th St. around the same time, Myers said.

The alleged victim on Sam Houston Jones Parkway was sprayed with “some sort of mace” by a young black woman, who appeared to be in her teens, who then attempted to steal her purse, Myers said.

A suspect matching the same description knocked down an elderly woman at Walmart and attempted to steal her purse, Myers said. The vehicle was seen in surveillance photos at both locations, she said.

Myers asked that anyone with information about the incidents 491-3605 or Crimestoppers at 439-2222. CPSO Detective Mark Clark is the lead investigator on both cases.

Two arrested for failure to register

A Lake Charles man and an Iowa man were arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, Myers said.

Andrew Marras, IV, 39, 205 Moss Street, No. 7, and Leapecous J. Celestine Jr., 31, 7104 Bowman Road, Iowa, were arrested by the Sheriff’s Office Compliance and Awareness Program Unit for moving without notifying authorities with three days, Myers said.

Marras was convicted of molestation of a juvenile in September 2000 in Cameron Parish, Myers said. He was then convicted of failure to register as a sex offender in Calcasieu Parish in January 2010 and March 2011. He was charged with third-offense failure to register as a sex offender. Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $15,000.

Celestine, who was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in August 2003 in Calcasieu Parish, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, Myers said. Judge Richard Wilson set his bond at $10,000.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

Delwin Dean Boudreaux, 30, 177 Pine Lane, Ragley: simple robbery. Bond: $250,000.

Amanda Dawn Kibodeaux, 33, 940 Kirby St., Sulphur: theft of goods under $500; 5 counts drug possession; contraband in jail. Bond: $8,500.
